Since he was a young boy, Niko Nazaret had a soul of rebellion. His rude father made him grow as a rebel.

“My father had a principal, if you’re in fighting, you have to face it. That made me a rebel, both at home and in the outside. I remember when I was going home, he was fixing a car. He asked me to take some keys, but I made mistake; I didn’t bring the keys he asked for. Finally he hit me with a hammer until my head was broken. Because of that, I really hate him,” Niko said.

Anger and madness stayed in Niko’s heart until he was grown up. He vented his anger over anybody and then he became a gangster.

From Papua, Niko migrated to Jakarta. Dealt with capital’s severity, Niko’s life became wilder. With his group, he often committed crime. He sometimes involved with fighting with another gangsters. After he showed off his skills for months, Niko got an offer from one of his friends to work in a discotheque.

“In first two or three months, nothing happened. But, I thought I had to bluff so that people knew who I was. ”

Finally, every troublemaker in that discotheque became Niko’s bull’s eye.

“We pulled out and beat anybody who made trouble. People were afraid of me because I hit any thugs who came over.”

Furthermore, the girls were forced to make love with him if they still wanted to work in that discotheque.

Until one day Niko fell in love with a woman. He hoped that his life would change by marrying her. But that never happened, because Niko was still a thug.

“He went home and was drunk. And because I often consumed drugs, I was unconscious. ”

Niko’s act made his wife upset and afraid, especially when Niko was rude to her.

One day, Niko heard a report that his father was sick. He later went to his hometown, Papua. But he didn’t intend to do so by love. He wanted to pay his revenge on his father for what he has done to him, instead. Furthermore, his step-mother no longer could bear his anger.

“Once upon a time, I was sleeping with my children. He invited my wife to an island. As a result, after she was back home, she looked insane.”

His father who lay down on the bed, tried to defend his wife. That made Niko angrier, and they fought.

“Finally, that was a rainy night and I wanted to kill father. I carried him outside. Coincidentally, there was a small river behind the house, so I wanted to kill him and let his body wander. But as I was carrying him, I felt a sudden tender pity for him. At last, I brought him back to home.”

After his wife became normal, Niko decided to return to Jakarta so that he could avoid bigger conflict with his family. He got back to his old friends and liquors. But, on that day he was unlucky.

“At that time I felt dizzy, I felt unwell. Suddenly my head was painful, even my body was stiff, like being tied.”

Niko himself didn’t understand what kind of illness he suffered from. But he felt that doom awaited him very closely.

“When water spouted from my arms, I thought, ouch… it’s death. Eventually I imagined the people who already died, such as my mother, my uncle… I imagined that they call me.”

While his condition became worse, Niko asked his wife to pray for him. While praying, Niko was reminded a face of a man. Then he asked his wife to contact that man, and asked him to come and pray for him.

The man came and then he prayed briefly for Niko. But something miraculous happened.

“That matter was hard to explain. It’s too tremendous! I never felt like this before, so I didn’t know how to express it. But that was very awesome. My sickness was immediately gone.”

That night, Niko’s life path was immediately changed because he surrender his life to God at the very moment.

“I felt great God’s presence, I couldn’t stand. I felt relieved. I could feel that all sins and mistakes that I have ever made were gone away on that day. I didn’t feel any conflicts with my father anymore. No more resentment.”

Niko realized that his life was a merely gift.

“Without Jesus in this life, my life was on the ground. But because of Him, I rose up. That was great love for me, because without God, I cannot do anything.”
