Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning
Bible Reading for A Year:[bible]Psalm35[/bible];[bible]iites2[/bible];[bible]isaia23-24[/bible]
When we were at a cultural show in Bandung, West Java, we enjoyed a very impressive orchestral performances. Before the show ended up, each of 200 people who attended that show were given a gift, angklung. We were taught to wiggle it together according to the command that given by the conductor. We immediately felt as if performing in an orchestra and we were very proud of our performances! Then I realized that it was not about our good performances; but the conductor was more worthy to have that award.
Likewise, when everything is going well in our lives, we are easy to feel proud. We are tempted to think that we are great and we can achieve success with our own ability. At that time, we tend to forget that behind all that, there is our good God. He is promoting, preventing, preserving, and protecting us.
David is one of the leaders in the Bible who remembers this truth: "Then David the king went in, and sat before the Lord, and said:" Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, which thou hast brought me hitherto? "([bible]ichro17:16[/bible]). Though he could be arrogant, but David's heart was so overflowing with appreciation for the goodness of God. He never assumes that what he enjoys is because of His greatness. He realized that it was God who gave all that he had experienced and felt.
The contemplation on this Sunday reminds us not to be tempted to assume the blessings we enjoy are solely our efforts. We must believe that it is God who gives blessings in our lives: past, present, and even until forever - AL
