What do you think when you talk
about the heart? All of the things you own right now belong to the Lord.
However, He gives you free will. The free will is your heart itself. You can
choose whom you are going to serve—whether Jesus or another gods.
As a matter of fact, God wants
you to always guard your heart. Why? It’s because everything you do flows from
it. When you have trouble and you keep it in your heart, or when your heart is
broken, people can see it through your words or your face.
1 Samuel 16:7 says: But the
LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of
his stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees;
for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
The heart is very important to
God. It’s because God always looks at the heart. God never looks at your
talents, appearance, or wealth. God looks at your attitude. The attitude really
determines your future.
We can learn from Joseph. When
Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife, what did he do? Did he respond to it?
Genesis 39:8-9 But he refused
and said to his master’s wife, "Look, my master does not know what is with
me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. " There
is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me
but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and
sin against God?"
Joseph had a chance to sleep
with Potiphar’s wife, but he decided to refuse it. This is Joseph’s right
attitude. He was not afraid of the risk of being fired by his master. Joseph
had an opportunity to sleep with her, since nobody would know about it. But
Joseph feared the Lord. He has the right attitude.
The
knowledge of God will teach you to have the right attitude towards the Lord.
