When someone visits a doctor,
the common thing to do first is checking the vital signs such as temperature,
heart pulse, and blood pressure because all of them can represent the health of
your body. After that, the doctor will ask you what you feel, the symptoms, and any other things related to your condition that determine the diagnosis.
Do you know that you can also
experience bad spiritual condition, and there are some signs to recognize it?
What are the benchmark or vital signs that can describe how spiritually healthy
we are?
First, our soul longs for the
Lord. The psalmist says, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my
soul for You, O God.” (Psalm 42:2). Without the desire of the Lord, our heart
is frigid and hollow. The focus of our heart will turn away. That’s why God
reminds us to keep our heart with all diligence (Proverbs 4:23).
The second sign is how much
your love for God. There is a saying that “We can serve others without loving,
but we cannot love without serving other.” Love is God Himself. If we lose the
love in our heart, then we lose the divine DNA. This is a very dangerous sign,
and the Bible also reminds us in the book of Revelation that God warns the
church in Ephesus because they have left their first love (Revelation 2:4).
The third sign is faith. The
worried and riches and pleasures of life will hinder the seed of God’s word to
grow in our heart (Luke 8:11-18). God wants us to live by faith in His Word. He
wants us to not be controlled by worries and fears, but to walk in godly
courage to overcome the impossible.
Today, let us check the vital
signs of our spiritual life. If you find that you should repair yourselves,
start today! Do not let the virus or bacteria prey our spiritual health.
