David and Jonathan is an example
that illustrates godly friendship that builds love at each other.
1
Samuel 18:1-4
Now
when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the
soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. Saul took him that day,
and would not let him go home to his father’s house anymore. Then Jonathan and
David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan took
off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his
sword and his bow and his belt.
In these verses we see how
Jonathan loves David. Jonathan took off his robe and gave it to David. This is
one sign of the love of a friend. Friendship in God is very beautiful.
Maybe this time you have a
friend whether it's friends on campus, or in the church office. Friendship cannot
be proved only with words, but must be with a deed. In choosing a friend, one
also should be careful; you should make friends with the right people. Do not
let people who you consider friends take you into the abyss. You have to test
it. Friendship in the Lord will not pretend or play-act well in front of you.
Good friend is always there in joy and sorrow.
The beauty of godly friendship
is when you are weak due to a problem, which gives your friend a chance to pray
for you, so you will be strengthened and firmed.
However, it is not easy to
choose the right friends. But trust God that He will always be a faithful friend
for you at any time; both in your ups and down.
Loving
God is an initial step to be in a godly friendship.
