Acts 17:11

These were more fair–minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Listening to the new things with an open mind and all the heart is a right thing to do. Unless we receive new things, we are the old wineskins. However, we have to test every word we’ve heard. Test all things, whether they accord with the Bible, or not.

Many Christians know what they believe, but only a few who understand why they believe in it. Each of us is responsible for establishing equity of what we believe—equity in Jesus.

When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He had to answer, “It is written...” He was unveiling the truth from the Bible. In other words, Jesus’ teaching and action were based on the written Words. So are ours as His followers.

Furthermore, if we want to build the firm life, we need not only the Word of God but also a relationship with Him. Life is more than knowing the Bible—we have to know God through the Bible. That’s what made Jews in Berea were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica. They were growing in knowledge of God, both from the Bible and the relationship with Him.
