Success Knows No Giving-Up

Academy Awards 2016, an event better known as the Oscars awarding ceremony, was successfully held in Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles on February 28th, 2016. The 88th iteration of this event had something more interesting to it compared to previous years. The award for the category of best actor was won by Leonardo DiCaprio, something that the general public has been expecting enthusiastically for so long.
The long journey of DiCaprio for the award began 25 years ago when he was first nominated for the award. Unfortunately, DiCaprio had to be satisfied with only three more nominations, before he finally won it. Beyond the award and his long career in cinema, DiCaprio has a lesson for us all to learn on how to deal with failure. For years, DiCaprio had to deal with pressure from social media. A lot of people made fun of the fact that he had not won an Oscar. He was even made into an internet meme. Everyone seemed to be mocking him. But DiCaprio kept himself focused at giving his best performance in every role he plays. His hard work finally bore its fruit and allowed him to win the Oscar this year.
While DiCaprio inspires us to not give up even in the face of challenge, another man also teaches us of this important lesson. This man is not a celebrity, rather a common man who is also a faithful viewer of Solusi named Hotnie from Cimahi, West Java. Hotnie used to be troubled when he was jobless for three years, despite already applied for positions in several companies. Hotnie had tried everything he could, from sending application letters to attending interviews, but his effort seemed to be in vain.
During this time, Hotnie was often mocked by his neighbors. He was always compared with his peers. Even his own friends or family members used to make fun of him. They used to say that despite being a graduate, Hotnie was useless for having no job. Hotnie could only keep all those mean words to himself. But he never gave up and kept praying to God. Via SMS, Hotnie oone day asked CBN Counseling Center to support him through prayer: "Good evening sir, may I ask you to pray for me so that I can finally get a job, I have tried applying many times but to no avail. Thank you.”
After at least 11 days asking for praying support, Hotnie once again called CBN Counseling Center. This time to express his thanks for the prayer support, because he has finally got a job. Hotnie was really grateful because his hard work finally yielded result. Now he could make his parents proud.
There is always way for those who refuse to give up. There are times when life challenge us with frustrating situations, but by relying on God we will find the strength to come back stronger as quoted in Proverb 24:16, "for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” This is a wisdom to remind us all to never give up, no matter how hard the challenge and circumstances.
