Do you know that one’s spirit can be saved while his flesh is destroyed? (1 Corinthians 5:5). Our spirit may be saved for we believe in Jesus, not because of what we have done. It happens when we forsake our sins and put our faith in Christ. And God has a purpose in our live: He wants us to serve Him.
However, many believers do not do what God wants them to do. As a consequence, they would lose their flesh. The Bible says that one day each of us will stand before the Lord, and our every work will be tested to see what sort it is (1 Corinthians 3:12-14). If we build our life with wrong foundation, the work will be burned, but our spirit will be saved.
Jesus said, "Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” Hold fast, be immovable, and do not relax the grip. When you let it go, you will lose your crown.
A crown is a symbol of reward or prize. Losing the crown means losing the reward or the prize. The Bible says the crown will be given by God to those who have been faithful to God (Revelation 3:11). It is written in 1 Thessalonians 2:19 (KJV) about the crown of rejoicing; possibly a crown for the winner of the souls. And then in 2 Timothy 4:8 we find the crown of righteousness, and James 1:12 tells us about the crown of life provided for the people who endure temptation.
All of those crowns are provided by God for our rewards. What a pity we have nothing that makes us deserve the crown when we stand before Him one day! So, as we are already saved, live the life according to the purpose God has given us. It is not for getting the salvation of course, nor for getting rewards, instead for showing how we love Him who has died and redeemed us and given us the eternal life.
We have received the salvation with the precious blood of Christ; therefore do not take in to no purpose.
