1 Peter 4:11

"if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ".

Bible Reading for A Year: Psalms 139; John 16; Ezra3-4

The difference between serving God and serving yourself is very little. We could use a reason to serve God, but in fact we are serving our interests and satisfaction.

One way to test whether we serve God or our selves is by looking at the response which we give when our ministry are not appreciated by others, or when our opinions and desires in ministry is not acceptable. When our responses are angry, even until being resigned from the ministry, it means we are not serving God but our selves.

One of the biblical figures who ever behaved like that is Jonah. Jonah was angry when he was seeing that God did not do something as what Jonah’s desire (Jonah 4:1).

Jonah was disappointed when God would forgive Nineveh, the great enemy of Israel at that time. However, God did not let Jonah continuously dissolves in anger. God comforted and changed the attitude of Jonah through the growth and the death of the gourd. God teached that what is supposed to be served is God's desire to save the people of Nineveh and not the desire of Jonah to perish that nation. Having a heart that make God’s will as the most priority in our lives should be owned by any of His servants (including you and me).

One mistake that is often faced by the servants of the Lord is when he is no longer able to distinguish between God's will and his desire. Therefore, let us change and have the right heart - RY

Serving means doing God's interests and not ours
