CBN Indonesia continues to be committed to equipping the church network with a focus on building a comprehensive discipleship ecosystem for children aged 3-14 years and their parents. This discipleship ecosystem is realized through various programs, such as the PAUD Super5 curriculum, Superbook, School of Life (SOL) Children’s Learning Center, and The Parenting Project. In addition, CBN is also active in supporting underprivileged families by providing micro-business capital assistance, advancing agricultural communities, providing access to clean water, and improving nutrition and health. The goal is for children to experience a comprehensive transformation starting from education, character, spirituality and welfare of life.
This month, we introduce one of nine child discipleship ecosystems in North Sumatra, namely GPMI Eirene, Sumbul, Dairi, located about 120-kilometers (or 3 hours) from the capital city of Medan. In this ecosystem, we work together with GPMI Eirene Sumbul's church network to help children from underprivileged families, whose parents mostly work as farmers, to solve the high problems of low education and poor character of children. We long that from this region will be born outstanding children who will become leaders in their communities and nations.
As the backbone of CBN child discipleship, GPMI Eirene faithfully serves 24 Super5 ECCE children, 57 Superbook Sunday School children and 77 School of Life (SOL) Children's Learning Center children, with 6 teachers who have the heart to disciple children. We also provide support to 8 underprivileged families of the children we serve through economic empowerment in the form of providing plant seeds.
The following is the impact of the child discipleship ecosystem at GPMI Eirene, Sumbul.
Praise God! CBN's discipleship through GPMI Eirene has changed the lives of Oen June and her family. This 12-year-old child is always active in Superbook Sunday school. As a child, he did not understand the meaning of prayer at first. Until one time, Oen participated in worship and learned the Superbook curriculum from the story of Queen Esther. This story teaches Oen about how to solve problems with prayer.
Coming from a simple farming family, economic conditions became a problem in the Oen family. The harvest that often loses money makes the Oen family unable to meet their daily needs. So CBN, through GPMI's recommendation, Eirene helped in the economic empowerment of tomato seedlings to her father Samson.
But the drought that lasted for two months had made the tomato harvest almost fail. At that moment, Oen remembered Queen Esther's prayer, and convinced her father to pray that God would help her tomatoes grow well. Oen's simple words made Samson realize that he was only relying on the strength and knowledge of farming without involving God.
Oen's father's faith was further strengthened when the church reminded him that in every effort made it is important to always rely on God.
Since then, the family has always taken time to pray for their tomato garden and believe that God can turn failures into successes. Thanks to this prayer, the Oen family's tomatoes grew well and even gave a profit in harvest time. This harvest is also used to meet the needs of their families and also capital to grow crops again.
'Through this vegetable garden program, I get guidance and direction not only from the knowledge of farming, but also from the spiritual side. My family was guided to get closer to God, because it turns out that in work not only our knowledge is needed, but we also must have faith and always pray,' said Samson.
