Numbers 18:19

All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the Lord, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the Lord unto thee and to thy seed with thee.

Salt is not only important to make food tasty, but also it is useful for health. Moreover, salt has 14,000 advantages either chemically or health. Salt has was known since primeval even it had ever been used as an exchange value as same as gold.

In fact, the Bible has recounted salt. Jesus, Himself, spoke to believers in order to be the light and salt of the world. However, have you ever heard about ‘the salt covenant’? In Old Testament, the word of salt testament showed off 3 times; 2 times related to the holy offering and the other related to God’s promise about the throne of David’s kingdom.

Why did God use salt covenant to sacred things as like the holy offering and the throne of David?

Salt covenant is a culture in Middle East. A clearly example to this covenant is when the Prime Minister of Israel met the President of Egypt, Sadat in 1970’s. When the Prime Minister, Begin has been in Egypt, both of them stopped and ate bread and salt together. This is what so called “the salt covenant”. By his actions, Sadat said that Begin would be safe while visiting Egypt and he was courageous to guarantee it by his own life.

Salt symbolizes the loyalty, honest, and the salt covenant is also same with the eternal covenant. Therefore, when God declares those things must be done as the salt covenant, and then it is also same with the eternal covenant which God, by Himself gives the guarantee when it is obeyed.

God we worship is the covenant Lord. He never violates His promises. That’s why David says, “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. (Psalms 12:6). However, it could not be done by one person, but more than one. It is also applicable when the people of God obey its covenant. Therefore, if we ever get His promise in our lives, hold that promise firmly and do it, obey His commands and answer His calling.
