Make Use of Faith, Hope, and Prayer

In a media discussion held by Sanofi Indonesia and the Association of Pediatricians on October 2017, an interesting data was presented that in general there are around 7,000 kinds of rare diseases already identified plaguing around 350 million people across the world. Unfortunately only about 5 percent of these rare diseases can be cured at the moment. These diseases contribute to about 35% of death in their first quarter. If we pay closer attention to the fact that only 5% of these diseases can be cured through right medical procedure, it means that there are people who are working hard to find cure for the remaining 95%. One of the speakers in the discussion, Damayanti, stated that “even if it’s a rare case of illness, it doesn’t mean there is no longer hope.” Indeed, this is the greatest weapon against any disease, something that we call faith. Where there is hope, faith shall do its work through prayer. This was realized in the life of Eli.
For around 2 years, Eli suffered from an itch on her leg that eventually turned into a wound. What initially began as a normal wound as a result of scratching eventually swelled, suppurated, and caused her temporary paralysis. Because of this wound, Eli went to consult several doctors. But none of the doctors she consulted could help her. No treatment or medicine was proven effective to cure the wound. This rare disease only made her lose her confidence, and even deteriorated her relationship with her husband. Eli slowly but surely began to drown in sorrow and disappointment.
But Eli did not lose hope. With faith, Eli contacted Sahabat 24 and confessed her issue, her family condition and her past life. The pain was unbearable, and a lot of pus seeped out from her wound. Ten days later, Eli contacted Sahabat 24 once again and told them that she could walk once again, the wounds on the other parts of her body have also recovered, and the harmony in her marriage is restored once again, Eli and her husband have realized how amazing God is.
