What Is Mine Is A Gift From God, And I Will Share

Terrorism, separatist movements, and generation crisis are issues that our nation, Indonesia, is currently facing today. Many efforts to spark conflict, disunity, and disharmony are reverberating across the country. From children to adults, intellectuals to professionals, everyone is involved in the increasingly urgent tension between religious beliefs and races. This sparked many movements aimed to return the community back to the bosom of unity, like the only movement #AkuPancasila (I am Pancasila). These issues have even motivated a senior priest, Pdt. Nus Reimas, to deliver the following message and call for unity.

“My brothers and sisters, what we see, what we hear, and what is currently going on at this very moment is nothing less than extraordinary. Who would have thought that amidst the rapidly evolving technology, only in the last two years, our children generation would be the most involved with technology? This is all a matter of focus. As the church of God we need to fix our focus on Jesus. For 44 years of serving the Lord, I always ask the question “Who am I? Why do I still exist until this very day?” And I’ve found the answer, because I always focus on Jesus. If we focus only on Him, he’d help us turning the trivial into things of great significance; the impossible will become possible. If we review the story of how Jesus turned 5 breads and 2 fish, a number of little significance, into something extraordinary when presented before God. That is also how it works with our lives. Even when we are nothing at the beginning, once we have a faith in Jesus, we will all become extraordinary offerings for the Lord.

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6

Always remember, He is the one who begins all things, so it is important for us to always believe in him and abide to His wills. If everyone already thinks of themselves as the most capable, we will all be reduced into individualists. But if we keep our focus strong in the Lord, it would serve an occasion for humility. Without humility, there will be no collaboration, innovation, and acceleration. That’s why we need to humble ourselves before God. Humility or being humble means prioritizing others more than our own selves. The church and God’s servants have failed to unite because they do not humble themselves properly, thinking of themselves as the most important. After 44 years of serving, I have become a witness of the poor state of humility in Indonesia. The unity of the body needs to happen, not only as a concept. We need to work together for the glory of God.

“that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:10-11

My brothers and sisters. The basic tendency of humans is to live as individualistic, materialistic, and consumptive creatures. These things exist and have permeated into all aspects of human live. It is because of them that we see more conflicts taking place in our lives. Human basically has a principle, “what is yours is mine, I will thieve. What is mine is mine, I will keep it.” The church and everyone who believes in God should have this principle “What is mine is a gift from God, and I will share.” This should be our primary philosophy. Otherwise, we will be ill-equipped in facing the increasingly dire threats and challenges of intolerance. Unity is really important. It allows everyone to do everything while keeping their focus on Christ, while still humbling themselves by remembering that “I cannot walk alone.” This is my sincere hope for our nation. This should serve as something for us to reflect on. If we don’t make the necessary introspection, the church will be eroded by time. (Summarized from CBN Indonesia Dedication Day 2017).
