Train up a child
in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

While
visiting his congregations one by one, a pastor came to a farmer’s house. He
was impressed by a boy’s cleverness and hospitality. This 4-year-old boy was
the farmer’s only son. Later, he found out why the boy was so impressive.
His mom was
in the kitchen cleaning some parts of the refrigerator, when the boy came to
show her a magazine. “Mom, what is the man in the photograph doing?” It’s what
his mother did after that which made the pastor impressed.
The pastor
saw that she left all her activities, cleaned her hands, sat on a chair, took
the boy on her lap, and spent about 10 minutes to answer every question her son
asked her.
After the
boy left her, the pastor commented on this woman’s act. “Most mothers don’t
like to be disturbed,” the pastor said. “I still can clean the refrigerator for
the rest of my life,” the woman replied. “But my son won’t ask me twice.”
This woman choose
to train up her son as early as possible, spend most of her time with him, and
give him clear explanations, that later this son impresses the pastor. Receive
instruction and learn from it though we may feel uncomfortable to it, because
someday we would reach the purpose God has made for us. We have to choose the
priority, keep walking according to His way until the end of our life, and
receive the crown of glory.
