35 Rainwater Harvesting Systems, The Answer to a Long Wait for Hilifaosi Village Community

Kemanusiaan

Imagine waking up before sunrise every morning, walking long distances to a river—carrying empty buckets or jerry cans, only to fill them with murky water. Or as an alternative, collecting water stored in shallow pits around your home—water that smells unpleasant, looks dirty, and offers no certainty of being safe or hygienic. Yet there is no other choice but to consume it.

This is not just a story from the past. For years, the people of Hilifaosi Village, Bawolato District in Nias, have continued to live this reality. And Marfel (7) is one of the children who faces the daily struggle of accessing clean water.

When his family runs out of stored rainwater during the dry season, they have no choice but to walk to a distant river. At times, they are forced to rely on water from hand-dug wells—water that often causes itching and stomach problems.

Now, Marfel no longer faces that struggle. His family is one of the beneficiaries of a Rainwater Harvesting System provided by Obor Berkat Indonesia. Through this water storage system, they now have access to clean water for their daily needs—an answer to the long wait they have endured.

Celebrating the Dedication of 35 Rainwater Harvesting Systems

Dedication Ceremony of 35 rainwater harvesting systems in Hilifaosi Village, Bawolato, was welcomed with great joy on Friday, March 27, 2026. A total of 33 beneficiary families, along with church leaders, school representatives, and members of the local community, gathered at AFY Hilihoya Church to celebrate the arrival of clean water they had long hoped for.

Tears and joy came together in a moment filled with deep gratitude—as a project that began in July 2025 was finally completed.

The construction process itself was never a one-sided effort. Driven by a spirit of community and togetherness, local residents worked side by side with the Obor Berkat Indonesia team — building each unit step by step until the project was completed in early 2026.

Dear Partner, while many of us enjoy easy access to clean water every day, there are still countless families in remote areas who must struggle just to obtain safe water. This need is what moves us to continue serving—and since 2024, we have built rainwater harvesting systems for dozens of families across three villages in Nias.

Your support through this program is more than just assistance—it is an answer to the prayers and needs they have long been waiting for.

Let’s bring help and hope to children and families in need.
