When the Church Brings Hope to Children, Parents, and the Community
Holistic Disciple Making Ecosystem
Amid limited access and economic challenges in Oefeto Village, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, God is at work through the community of GMIT Efrata Karisin Church.
Since becoming an independent congregation in 2017, the church has grown into a center for children’s discipleship and family strengthening. Through the Holistic Disciple Making Ecosystem, the ministry reaches beyond spiritual growth to also support education, health, and family economic empowerment.
CBN Indonesia’s Discipleship and Community Support
CBN Indonesia began supporting this community through the Superbook Sunday School discipleship program, and later expanded the partnership through Super5 early childhood education and the School of Life after-school program for children ages 6–14.
Today, this community continues to grow as a blessing to dozens of children and parents around the church through several initiatives:
• Super5 Glorya Efrata Karisin Kindergarten, providing holistic early childhood education and discipleship for early childhood every day.
• School of Life Learning Center, equipping children with after-school tutoring and practical life skills.
• Superbook Sunday School, discipling children every Sunday through the Superbook curriculum and animated Bible stories.
• The Parenting Project, strengthening parents through a seven-module parenting program.
Within the GMIT Efrata Karisin church, children are nurtured spiritually, supported academically, and shaped in character. Parents are also empowered through parenting classes, free medical services, and food security initiatives through the Garden in School program, which includes vegetable gardening and raising chickens.

Holistic Impact on the Community
Through education, discipleship, nutrition, and economic empowerment, real changes are beginning to take place in the community:
1. Children’s Transformation. Children are growing not only academically but also in character, faith, and compassion.
2. Stronger Families. Parents are becoming more actively involved in their children’s development and learning to raise them with Christ-centered values.
3. Improved Food Security. The school garden helps ensure children regularly receive nutritious food.
4. Sustainable Economic Learning. The chicken farming program provides hands-on lessons in resource management, risk awareness, and adaptation.

“Through the vegetable garden and the chicken farming program, we are now able to consume vegetables and eggs together. The garden has helped children who previously refused to eat vegetables begin to enjoy them. Parents are very thankful because their children are finally getting used to eating vegetables.
Through the chicken farming program, we teachers also learned how to raise chickens and care for them. At first the children were afraid to approach the chicken coop, but over time they became excited to feed and care for the chickens. Parents are happy because their children have even become diligent in helping care for chickens at home.”

Now when my children argue, I choose to sit quietly first so I don’t react in anger. After things calm down, I gently advise them to love one another and stop fighting. I am grateful because this program has helped us learn how to raise our children better.”
