Two Tractors That Drive the Lives of Farmers in Simodong

Kemanusiaan

Simodong, a farming village in Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, has wide and fertile rice fields. However, this great potential has long been limited by the lack of proper land-cultivation equipment. The village only had two privately owned tractors, which the owners needed to use first before renting them out to other farmers. As a result, every planting season brought long queues, farmers missed the optimal planting window, and many were forced to rent tractors from outside the village at higher costs.

Seeing this struggle, CBN’s humanitarian ministry through Obor Berkat Indonesia was moved to provide tangible support by distributing two hand tractors in May 2025. This initiative has greatly helped the local farmers—many of whom are parents of children participating in CBN’s discipleship programs through School of Life and Super5 Kindergarten—while also strengthening the role of the church in empowering its community.

The Arrival of the Tractors Greatly Helped Mrs. Sarya

Mrs. Sarya, one of the beneficiaries of OBI’s agricultural capital support, experienced firsthand the benefits of having two new tractors in her village. After her harvest last August, she was able to prepare her land for the next planting season without being hindered by rental queues. Her farming process is now timely and efficient. She has felt the real impact of OBI’s support—reducing financial burden, saving time, and lowering land-preparation costs for the next season.

Praise God! Both tractors are still operating today. Three operators appointed by the local church have also received technical training from the CBN Indonesia humanitarian team, covering equipment use, maintenance, service targets, and rental bookkeeping systems.

Through this support, we hope the limitations in rice field processing facilities can be overcome, farmer productivity will increase, and ultimately, this will have a direct impact on family welfare. When families become more prosperous, ministry to children through the church can also be sustainable and a more secure future.
