Behind the region surrounded by hills in West Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara, there is a small community constantly struggling amidst limitations. Clean water is hard to come by, schools are limited, and many families live off unpredictable agricultural yields.
However, amidst the drought and the harshness of life, an oasis of hope emerges—the GBI Ecclesia Family community in Umanen Village, which continues to sow love and build a new generation through holistic discipleship.
Under the pastoral care of Pastor Jeksen Yerry Tombeng, S.Th, this church does not only serve through weekly worship but also reaches out to children and families with the love of Christ through education, spiritual guidance, and economic empowerment.
Currently, more than 90 children are being discipled through various child and parent discipleship programs with CBN Indonesia, including:
Holistic Discipleship Impact
Thanks to the commitment of the church and all the ministries in this community, children aged 5-14 who previously lost hope due to difficult access to education, now dare to dream big. Furthermore, the regular spiritual support provided has fostered the faith and knowledge of Christ in every child.
CBN Partners, we share this inspiring story resulting from the discipleship efforts in this community especially for you.
Jhulenti Manu (11 years old) - The School of Life Participant

'In the past, Jhulenti was often called ‘the smelly one’ and accused of bedwetting — a taunt that wasn’t true but was enough to make her lose confidence. She once felt worthless and didn’t know how to stand up for herself. However, through the 'Self-Awareness' lesson at the School of Life, Jhulenti learned to see herself the way God sees her — valuable and worthy of love. Now, she is more confident and no longer affected by what others say about her.'
Mutiara Homba (10 years old) - Superbook Sunday School Participant

'Mutiara used to be lazy about praying, but after watching the Superbook Animation at Kids Camp, specifically the episodes 'The Obedience of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego' and 'The Greatest Love,' she learned that prayer is a form of love and obedience to God. Since that night, Mutiara has been motivated to pray diligently, and the fruit of this is now evident through her daily prayer habit. She even frequently reminds her parents and younger siblings to pray together.'
