Pestalozzi was a
son of a doctor, but his father died when he was little, and his mother took
care of himself. Without a role of a father, he became so imaginative. When he
was adult, he followed his grandfather’s footsteps—becoming a pastor. He had a
desire to be a pastor, but he knew that it’s not he was called for.
He also tries to be
a lawyer to defend the oppressed, but failed as well. In the end, because of
his love for the oppressed, he tried to educate them. His whole life was
devoted to the interests of society. He taught them about Christ through
education, and he was loved by many people, including children. After his death,
a sculptor made the statue with a small child looking up to him. More and more
people admire Pestalozzi, then.
However, some
people who knew him well feel disappointed, because they think the picture of
the statue was not in accordance with the vision of Pestalozzi himself. Thus,
the statue was destroyed and a new one created where children looked straight
up, not to Pestalozzi. That is the main purpose of his struggle to help the
oppressed. He did not want them to make himself the center of attention. He
wanted them to just look to God. He taught them and introduced them about God.
The main purpose of
preaching the Good News is to introduce Lord Jesus to everyone. Make them look
to Him who has sacrificed for our salvation. We do not receive the commandment to
preach the Good News with the aim that people look at us and deify us. When
Paul and Barnabas preach the salvation in Lystra, local people cheered them and
regarded them as gods. However, Paul was angry and did not accept it, because
it is not the core of their message.
This is what we are
expected to do—teach people and those whom we serve to look to God only, more
than they look to and admire us. If we fail to make them look to God, then we
fail to teach them about God, which is the only one whom everyone must admire.
Let us preach so they can look to God, admire Him, and let the praise be unto
the Lord.
